WHAT FOLLOWS IS THE PROGRAM OUTLINE. This program is not designed for students transferring to other colleges or universities. As a rule, courses with a second digit "0" are designed to transfer. Students planning to transfer should consult a Counselor to verify the transferability of courses. Prerequisites for courses are noted in the IVCC Catalog. ECE 1000 is a prerequisite for the following: ECE 1201, *1203, 2202, 2203, 2207, 2208, and 2219
*May be taken concurrently with ECE 1000.
ECE 1202 is a prerequisite for ECE 1204.
EDC 1203 - Educational Technology must be taken upon entry to the Early Childhood Education program. Upon a student's last semester, he/she will enroll in ECE 2206 - E-Portfolio and receive the 1 credit hour upon successful completion of the portfolio.
The following courses must be completed before ECE 2219:
ECE 1000, 1201, 1203, 2202, 2207, and 2208
A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 is required prior to enrolling in ECE 2219. Students must have a "C" or better in all courses. Petitioned approval by the ECE Program Coordinator is required the semester prior to student teaching (ECE 2219). All forms must be completed prior to registering.
Upon enrollment to ECE 1000 - Introduction to Early Childhood Education, students are required to:
- Complete the Illinois State Police (ISP) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Background Checks. Students must purchase the "Observation Binder" from the Bookstore which includes the fee and the forms for the background checks. This binder is purchased only once and background checks are completed upon enrollment and the ISP is placed on file at IVCC. Refer to http://www.accuratebiometrics.com/ for monthly schedule or contact Tammy Landgraf for scheduled background checks done on-campus.
- Purchase HMH Portfolio Access Code through the Bookstore. The HMH portfolio is used in several courses throughout a student's tenure in the Early Childhood Education program.
Students will be held accountable to the IVCC Education Disposition Policy.
Early Childhood Education Gateway Credential Levels 2 and 3 can be completed through IVCC ECE Certificates.
